Visitor information National Park Weerribben-Wieden

Do you want to discover this beautiful, historic, varied, wetland landscape in all its glory?

You are welcome at Natuurmonumenten (the Dutch Society for Nature Conservation). Starting at the visitor centre De Wieden you can embark on excursions by boat or take a ferry to the historic villages Blokzijl or Giethoorn. Enjoy the nature trail 'the Welly Way' where you pull yourself across the water on a floating barge. For an easy walk through the fenland follow the floating walkway and step into the huts used by the peat workers.

Step on board for a boat trip or get your boots on and enjoy the 'Welly Way'. The visitor centre De Wieden offers six wonderful wetland activities. Make your choice and enjoy!

The best way to do discover the wetlands is from the water

Every day there is a Dutch language excursion in an open boat over the large lakes, through the small winding canals, along by the hay fields and reed beds. There are different boat trips lasting from 1 hour 45 minutes to 4 hours. Translations in different languages are available on board. Reservations necessary.

Wander over the floating walkway (1 km)

Here you can enjoy the rich, varied, nature in De Wieden. Accessible for wheelchairs, buggies and Zimmer frames.


Step back into history

Visit the huts used by the peat workers

Learn about the lives of the workers who dug out the peat. Turn off the floating walkway, cross over the bridge, and you reach the two authentic huts. Accessible by foot only.


Wetland adventure

Pull yourself across the water on a floating barge.

Roam along this nature trail through the marshy land. Four times you must pull yourself across the wide ditches on a floating barge. Rubber boots or waterproof ankle boots are needed for this walk. Enjoy this wet Wellie Way!

Ecowaterbus national park Weerribben-Wieden

Take the Ecowaterbus

The visitor centre is the leaving point for the Ecowaterbus. These ferries sail twice a day between Sint Jansklooster and Giethoorn, and Sint Jansklooster and Blokzijl.
Reservations not possible. Come early, at busy times they may be full (max. 24 passengers).

Climb the water tower

Climb the 207 steps to the top of this spectacular staircase. Enjoy the unique birds-eye view of De Wieden. Our volunteers are ready to greet you. Open every Saturday April-October 11:00 - 16:00 h; November-March 12:30-15:00 h.
